The Chois are one of the most influential families in the story of Mystic Messenger. They are a key part of the hidden lore revealed in the Secret Endings and Another Story.

History[]

Approximately 20 years ago, Saejoong Choi (a political figure) had a sexual relationship out of wedlock with a woman (dubbed 'Mother Choi') for an unknown length of time - who was possibly his mistress. This bore two illegitimate sons: Saeyoung and Saeran.

When Saejoong was made aware of their existence, he feared for his reputation as children born out of wedlock were viewed negatively by society. Out of his extreme paranoia, he attempted to kidnap them at a young age. However Mother Choi had blackmailed him for money in order to survive and 'look after' her two sons.

Mother Choi and her sons lived in a small, shambolic house. The blackmail money mostly paid for medicine, alcohol and food. She regularly beat, starved and tied up both Saeyoung and more severely Saeran due to his sickly appearance. They were scared into keeping silent by the fear of their father and his power.

Saeyoung was given more freedom as the elder son to buy groceries, he used this to regularly visit the local church where he met V.

Trivia[]

  • Choi is one of the most common surnames in Korea and thus many characters share the same name, but are unrelated.
